A wounded soldier fresh from battle and slowly dying reports to King Duncan about the battle against the opposing rebel Macdonwald and his paid mercenaries from Norway. then he tells of the brave and strong Macbeth “carved out his passage” through the enemy and killed Macdonwald, but then more enemys arrived… despite this Macbeth was victorius and was promoted to a lord and inherited the land. Lord Rosse enters and tell of the victory, and also of how unfair they were to the losers.
“Nor would we deign him burial of his men, Till he disbursed at Colmes Inch, Ten Thousand dollars to our general use.” Despite winning an honourable victory for the king, they shamed the losers by not letting them bury their dead unless they paid $10,000-a lot more these days. This is dishonorable and might be the start of a plot twist/or Macbeths downfall?
