Macbeth Act 1 Scene 6

In this short scene King Duncan and his noblemen arrive to stay at Macbeths castle. They are greeted by Lady Macbeth who very suspiciously starts to butter up the king with flattery, when the audience members know that she secretly wants him dead, so Macbeth can be king. This is called dramatic irony, when the audience knows something that the actors dont.

In this scene another interesting thing is that Banquo (Macbeths friend who knows about the witchs) knows that Macbeth is supposedly going to be king, so will start to become suspicious of Lady Macbeth, who could be used against Macbeth later on.?

You’re doing a great job of keeping track of some of the key events, language effects and dramatic techniques in Macbeth so far. Great to see you note the dramatic irony in Act 1, Scene 6 – which otherwise feels rather empty as a scene.
